Vera S. Poulsen, age 91, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2011, at the Cartersville Medical Center, Cartersville, GA. She was the daughter of the late Arvid and Anna Swenson of Brewster.

Vera was born in Glen Ridge, NJ, and was raised in North Salem, NY. She was a graduate of Purdys Central High School and of the Katherine Gibbs School in New York City. She and her late husband, Adolf E. Poulsen, raised their family in Verona and West Caldwell, NJ, where she was an active volunteer in PTA, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and the Caldwell Presbyterian Church. She also worked at the Bankers Trust Company in New York City.

In 1971 Vera and Dolf moved first to Chamblee, GA, then to Columbia, SC. They later retired in Toccoa GA, on Lake Hartwell. Towing their travel trailer for 17 years, they visited 48 states and also set up winter housekeeping in Frostproof, FL, for several years.

In 2000 Vera moved to Felton Manor Assisted Living in Cartersville, GA. She was an active volunteer at Faith United Methodist Church, Meals on Wheels, a participant in Senior Olympics, and other local activities.

Surviving are sister, Dagmar Swanson of Carmel; son, Peter Poulsen of The Woodlands, TX; daughter Christine Fountain of Cartersville; four grandchildren; four great grandchildren; four nieces and nephews of Carmel; and 15 cousins in Sweden.

A celebration of the lives of Vera and Dolf will be held this summer at the Georgia National Cemetery, 2025 Mount Carmel Church Lane, Canton, GA.
