Putnam will continue to have highest sales tax in the region
By a vote of seven to two, the Putnam Legislature has called on New York State to reauthorize the county’s four percent local sales tax, instead of three percent. Legislature Chairman Vincent Tamagna described the additional one percent as “critical for our future.” Full Story

Pete Bardunias to become CEO of Saratoga’s chamber
Peter Bardunias has announced he will be leaving his position as president and CEO of the Greater Mahopac-Carmel Chamber of Commerce. Bardunias became executive director of the chamber in 2008 and previously worked as a volunteer, having been a part of the organization in some capacity for 15 years. Full Story

Indians seniors prevail in two of day’s best final bouts
MAHOPAC—The Mahopac High wrestling team had some solid performances last weekend at the Section 1 championships at Lincoln High School in Yonkers, but none were better than seniors Andrew Scopino and Steve Pagliuca, who won sectional titles in their respective weight classes on Sunday. Scopino wrestles at 285 pounds while Pagliuca competes at 140 pounds. Full Story

BREWSTER—After losing two in a row, the Brewster High boys basketball team came roaring back to win threestraight last week, and the Bears gave their fans quite a show in the last two – Brewster edged Yorktown Monday, 52- 51, on a Ryan Mahoney buzzer-beater, and the Bears took Panas to OT last Friday before snagging an 80-75 win. CARMEL—With the playoffs all but upon us, the Carmel High girls basketball team continued its assault of opponents last week, adding Mahopac and Somers to the list of conquests. Carmel whipped a revitalized Mahopac squad, 73-45, Saturday on the road, after handing Somers a 60-41 setback the prior Tuesday on the road. Full Story
