Odell Is GOP Choice for County Executive

Eric Gross

What a difference a year makes!

Putnam County Republicans held their annual nominating convention Wednesday evening and unanimously endorsed MaryEllen Odell for county executive.

The Carmel resident and former Putnam County legislator, who currently is employed by State Senator Greg Ball, failed to garner the nomination at the 2010 GOP Convention and lost a close Primary race to former State Senator Vincent Leibell before Leibell defeated Odell (who was running on the Independence Party line) in November.

Odell has been heir apparent ever since Leibell pleaded guilty to federal corruption charges.

In addition to Odell, the GOP nominated District Attorney Adam Levy for reelection along with Legislators Richard Othmer of Kent and Dini LoBue of Mahopac.

Republican County Chairman James Dibella said the GOP was also hoping to find a candidate to challenge Legislator Sam Oliverio of Putnam Valley. Oliverio is the only Democrat on the nine-member county legislature.
