Irene Shilling passed away peacefully in Jacksonville, Florida. At her bedside were her daughters and grandchildren. She was 81 years old.

Born in The Bronx, New York in 1930, Irene was the second of seven children of Richard and Lillian Hurley. She moved to Carmel in 1947 where she met her husband William Shilling and married in 1951. They were married for fifty three years until Bill died in 2004. Bill and Irene had 5 children, Karen (who died in 1999), William Jr., Robert, Leslie (Kincart) and Suzanne (Monroe). She also leaves behind 13 adoring grandchildren.

Her devotion to her family was something all her children will forever remember. She was a loving and devoted wife and a proud homemaker, believing that her role was a supremely important one. Her quiet grace was always a soothing influence in an otherwise tumultuous world. She truly enjoyed a special and intimate relationship with God, which always guided the direction of her life. Our family is heartened by the reunion of our Mother and Father in Heaven. Their contrasting styles made their marriage a perfect match.

There will be a Funeral Mass at St. James the Apostle in Carmel on Saturday, September 10th at 2pm. A Christian burial at Raymond Hill Cemetery will follow. For information please call St. James at 845-225-2079.

In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to the Community Hospice of Jacksonville.
