ELIZABETH ‘TISH’ SCHWEIZER

Elizabeth “Tish” Schweizer, of Fallbrook, Calif., and formerly of Mahopac Falls, passed away on October 19, 2011. She was born in Cold Spring, NY, June 2, 1930, the daughter of James G. Childs, who was from Ireland, and Myrtle E. Dole Childs, who was from Canada.

Elizabeth is survived by her loving husband Louie Schweizer and her children, Scott Harrison of Vista, Calif.; Dr. Dean Harrison of Granville, NY; and Jo Ann D’Andrea of Franklin, Tenn. Her stepchildren Hans Schweizer of Wappingers Falls, and Kyle Schweizer of Fort Lee, N.J., her stepparents, Jay and Ernestine Opie of Ossining; her aunt, Bertha Di- Giacomo of Ossining; her stepsister, Margaret Rea of Kingsville, Ohio; and her grandchildren Luke Harrison, Mariel and Grace D’Andrea and Abigail Schweizer also survive.

Elizabeth worked as clerk in the Crompond, NY, Post Office. Next she served as temporary Postmaster in Thornwood, NY. She then became Postmaster of the Mahopac Falls Post Office. Later she was transferred to Washington, DC, headquarters in charge of post office lobbies for the United States.

In 1994, Elizabeth moved to Fallbrook, Calif., where she and Louie were married. They joined Model A and Model T car clubs, as well as the Fallbrook Vintage Car Club. They also worked at the AGSEM Museum, Vista, Calif., as weavers. She was a CERT member, member of the Fallbrook Art Association, and the Fallbrook Garden Club. Elizabeth was an accomplished pen and ink artist, later switching to watercolor.

Viewing will be held at Joseph J. Smith Funeral Home, 692 US Route 6, Mahopac, NY 10541 on Thursday, October 27, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, October 28, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Kenneth H. Mast officiating. Interment will follow at Ballard-Barrett Cemetery in Mahopac Falls. Following the interment, a reception will be held at the Mahopac Falls firehouse.

In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made to the Mahopac Falls Fire Department Benevolent Association, P.O. Box 190, Mahopac Falls, NY 10542.
