Caroline E. Mauer passed away on December 21, 2011, in Mahopac. Born on May 23, 1926, she was raised in Queens, NY, by her parents, Caroline and Arthur Mayer.

An avid swimmer, she met her future husband, Remy Mauer, at a swimming pool. They married in New York City in 1952. After moving to Mahopac, she coowned and ran the Lake Mahopac Gulf Station from 1958-1973, later moving on to work at the Putnam County Department of Social Services.

After retiring in 1986, she focused her wealth of strength, intelligence and determination on what mattered to her the most: her family. Always active, she spent her free time hiking, going to rummage sales, and playing card games and bingo.

In addition to her parents, Caroline was predeceased by her siblings, Eugene Mayer and Evelyn Mayer-Cramer. She is survived by her brother, John Mayer, and his wife, Chantal; her daughters, Caroline Palmer and her husband, Robert; Jeanne Cason; Marilyn Norton; Cheryl Gardinier and her husband, John; seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, December 28, at Joseph J. Smith Funeral Home in Mahopac. Burial followed at the Union Valley Cemetery in Mahopac.
