A Carmel woman was one of three senior citizens killed Sunday in a Florida crash.

The Florida Highway Patrol identified the Putnam resident as Lore T. Brunetti, 73, of Carmel.

Brunetti and a 75-year-old woman from New Jersey were passengers in a Honda SUV driven by an 80-year old man from New Jersey that Trooper Taren Castro said went out of control on I-95 in Jupiter around 2 pm and veered off the highway crashing into a drainage ditch filled with highway runoff water.

The trooper said witnesses described the crash as being "violent. The southbound vehicle swerved off the divided highway, struck a utility pole before slamming into a cement culvert and catapulting into the pit."

The three passengers were in cardiac arrest when they were pulled from the SUV a short time later, said Capt. Don DeLucia.
