Peter John Tavino, a longtime resident of Brewster, passed away on January 13, 2012. He was 85.

Peter was born on July 17, 1926, in Tuckahoe, NY, to the late James and Josephine (Izzo) Tavino. He served in the Army during World War II. He was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus, serving as a Past Grand Knight. Peter owned his own construction company, and built and developed several properties throughout Brewster and the surrounding area.

Peter is survived by Nellie, his wife of 60 years; sons Peter (Mary), James (Nancy), Louis (Mary), and Thomas (Ann); daughter Joanne; sister Ann Disque; brother Justin Tavino; thirteen grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his sister Rose Manes.

Peter was a gentle and kind man who will be remembered fondly by many.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Wednesday, January 18, 2012, 10 a.m. at St Lawrence O'Toole Church in Brewster. Interment followed at St. Lawrence O’Toole Cemetery, Brewster. Friends called at the Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster on Monday and Tuesday.
