August T. Piazza, age 97, of Brewster, died peacefully at home on Sunday January 22, 2012.

Mr. Piazza was born October 21, 1914, in the Bronx, son of the late Thomas and Genni (Latino) Piazza. He moved to Brewster when he was six years old.

On October 27, 1940, he married Josephine Tagliavento in St. Lawrence O’Toole Church in Brewster. Josephine predeceased him on June 1, 1989.

Mr. Piazza worked as a teacher for the Bronx Vocational, teaching students how to be barbers for over thirty-five years. He also owned and worked in many barber shops in the Brewster, Carmel and Croton Falls area.

He was a member of the Croton Falls Fire Department, he was a past Chief and past member of the Board of Fire Commissioners, He also worked as a tax assessor for the town of North Salem, was an avid golfer, and most of all, loved his family.

Mr. Piazza is survived by his son Thomas Piazza of the Bronx; a daughter Karen Blake of Brewster; two sisters, Antoinette Babon and Bernice Hutchings of Brewster; a brother, John Piazza of Brewster; four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son Gerald Piazza and his brother Nicholas Piazza

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Wednesday, January 25, at St. Lawrence O’Toole Church, Brewster, with interment following at St. Lawrence O’Toole Cemetery, Brewster. Friends called at the Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster, on Tuesday.
