“Peekskill was not a hard meet…it was a comfortable meet for us,” coach Clare Carr said. “We got first or second in most of the events. There were no surprises; we swam against them in the very beginning of the season so I kind of knew what to expect.”
The Bears opened the meet by taking first and second in the 200 yard medley relay. Liam Hackett, Niki Tchobanov, Charlie Carr and Max Delin finished in 1:45 to take first place while Greg Markert, Sam Johnson, Daniel Fulop and Matt Kaufman finished second with a time of 1:57.
Delin and David Batten took the top spots in the 50 freestyle, finishing in 24.2 and 26.0. Carr (58.9) and Valedon (1:02) finished onetwo in the 100 butterfly. Hackett (54.1) and Fulop (57.6) finished the 100 freestyle in the top spots while Tchobanov (5:12) and Brian Valedon (5:21) finished first and second in the 500 freestyle.
Tchobanov finished first in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:11, while Johnson’s time of 2:30 placed him third.
Carr, Hackett, Tchobanov and Delin won the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:37, Valedon, Batten, Markert and Jamieson Ring finished second with a time of 1:46.
In addition to the easy victory, the Bears also had a ceremony where the younger swimmers honored the seven seniors who were swimming in their last home meet.
“It was nice because the younger swimmers have swam with them for a number of years,” Carr said.
Against Beacon, the Bears found similar success and finished first in every event despite not having their normal lineup.
“Beacon was a little bit better in terms of competition,” Carr said. “I was missing some kids so I had to jostle them around a bit.”
Carr, Hackett, Tchobanov and Delin once again won the 200 medley relay, finishing in 1:50. Markert finished first in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:04, Johnson took first in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:17.
Delin (24.10) won the 50 freestyle, Carr (59.28) won the 100 butterfly, Hackett won the 100 freestyle (54.05) and Tchobanov won the 500 freestyle (5:29).
The Bears’ next meet is Friday against Yorktown High at Mildred E. Strang Middle School at 4:30 p.m. After that, they will swim in the Divisionals the following weekend at Peekskill High.
