The Bears also handed Somers a 48-40 setback the prior Wednesday on the road, and finished the week at 9-4 overall and 4-0 in the league.

Friday at Brewster (5-6), the Rams led 21-14 after a sluggish first half. Brewster went on a 15-10 run in the third and trailed 31-29 at the end of three, but the Rams sealed the win with a 22-7 fourth-quarter burst.

Rams coach Dan O’Hare said his team did a good job defensively on Brewster’s top guns – Marisa Delzio and Lauren Quattrocchi – holding them to a combined 11 points.

“We zeroed in on Delzio and Quattrocchi, no question that was a key to this win,” O’Hare said. “That was due to the defense of D’Apice, Diaz and (Taylor) Bunkley. All three did a nice job.”

In addition to Diaz and D’Apice, Carmel got 11 points and three assists from Bunkley, Nikki Oliver added seven points and nine rebounds, and Kelsey Zwarych had another strong outing with 13 rebounds and five points.

Delzio finished with six points for the Bears, Brittany Deieso had eight, and Quattrocchi added five.

The prior Wednesday at Somers, Diaz led the Rams with 15 points, five assists and four steals, Oliver added 12 points and 10 rebounds, D’Apice had 10 points and Zwarych came up with nine points and grabbed a season-best 14 rebounds.

“It was a grind all the way,” O’Hare said of the game. “They have some talented players. In the fourth quarter we scored 15 of our 17 points from the line (Carmel went 15-of-18 from the stripe in the fourth). We got nice balance from four players, and D’Apice was on their big scorer, and did a nice job defensively.”

Carmel was scheduled to host North Salem Monday at 6 p.m.
