Mary A. Kelly, 81, of Palm Harbor, Fla., and formerly of Carmel, died on January 22, 2012.

Mary was born in New York City and moved from Carmel to Florida in 1980. Before retirement, she was employed by The Putnam County Courier and BOCES locally and later with the Largo, Fla., Police Department.

She was a member of St. Jerome’s Catholic Church, Largo, and previously of St. James the Apostle in Carmel. Mary enjoyed swimming with her family at the Castle Hill Beach Club in the Bronx, gardening, and playing Scrabble. Most of all, Mary enjoyed her family.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, John “Jack” (1977) a retired FDNY firefighter, and her son, Gerard “Jerry” (2005). She is survived by her children, John (Linda) Kelly, Tampa, Fla.; James (Susan) Kelly, Bradenton, Fla.; Maureen (Christopher) Burke, Seminole; and Thomas Kelly. She is also survived by sister, Bridget Teresa O’Sullivan, O.P., the Bronx; daughter-inlaw

Deborah (Jerry), Walpole, N.H.; and 9 grandchildren.

The viewing will be Friday, February 3, from 6-8 pm and Saturday, February 4, from 10am-12 pm at Cargain Funeral Home, Carmel. Burial will be in St. Lawrence O’Toole Cemetery in Brewster.

A reception to honor Mary’s life will follow her burial on Saturday afternoon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Uniformed Firefighters Association Widow’s and Children’s Fund.
