Evelyn L. Mahoney

Evelyn L. Mahoney, age 89, a 34- year resident of Patterson, formerly of North Salem, died Sunday, June 17, 2012, in Carmel.

Mrs. Mahoney was born in Somers, on October 29, 1922, to Frank and Edna (Sniffen) Totten.

Mrs. Mahoney married George C. Mahoney on April 9, 1939, in Somers. Mr. Mahoney died March 14, 1979.

Through the years, Mrs. Mahoney was the past president of both the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 672 in Brewster and the Croton Falls Fire Department. She was an avid reader, card player and took enjoyment sewing dolls and Halloween costumes. Mrs. Mahoney enjoyed traveling and looked forward to her Thursday night dinners out with friends.

Mrs. Mahoney is survived by her seven children, George Mahoney of Regan, Tenn., James Mahoney and his wife Anne of the Town of Kent, Diana Mahoney of Rhinebeck, Janet English and her husband Harry of Patterson, Kathryn Pilch of New Windsor, Edith Simmons and her husband Robert of Pawling, and Roxann Merritt of Wingdale; a sister, Edna Cable of Brewster; and 23 grandchildren, 47 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Violet McCarthy in 2007.

A funeral service was held Wednesday, June 20, at the Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster, with interment following at the Maple Avenue Cemetery, Route 311, Patterson.
