Eric Gross

Police are asking the public for its assistance in finding an elderly Putnam Valley man who authorities say suffers from dementia and Alzheimer's.

Ely Semidey, 78, walked away from a parked vehicle in the Bronx on Wednesday. New York City Police was contacted by family members who notified the Putnam Sheriff's Department in Carmel.

Chief Investigator Gerald Schramek said after receiving the complaint, his department sent a "missing vulnerable adult alert message" to all police agencies throughout New York State as well as contacting the NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services Missing Persons Clearinghouse.

Schramek said the Sheriff's Department was also working closely with Semidey's family.

The missing man is described as a white male who is bald with brown eyes, standing 5-feet tall and weighing 170 pounds. He was last seen wearing a blue collared shirt, blue jeans and black shoes. Schramek said Semidey may be in need of medication.

Anyone knowing Semidey's whereabouts is asked to call their nearest police department or the Sheriff's Department at 225-8060.
