Cecil V. Niles

Cecil V. Niles, of Patterson, formerly of the Bronx, passed away on Saturday, August 25, 2012, at home. He was 74.

Cecil was born October 10, 1937, in Georgetown, Guyana, the son of Cecil and Lorline (Studor) Niles. He attended Trinity Methodist and Guyana Technical Institute in Guyana. On September 11, 1965, he married his wife Joan Wharton at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Georgetown, Guyana.

Cecil was a retired superintendent of the NYC transit authority in Brooklyn, Manhattan and the Bronx. He was a professional weight lifter in the Pan- American games. He was an avid baseball, basketball and football fan and enjoyed working on automobiles. His biggest passion in life was spending time with his five grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Joan and children, Michael Norville and Kim Niles, both of Patterson; Cecil V. Niles and his wife Leonor R. of the Bronx; Glenn P. Niles and his wife Yvonne of Patterson; and Shawn Niles of Newport News, Va.; and his brother, Winston Niles of Georgetown, Guyana. Cecil is also survived by 5 grandchildren, Cecil Anthony Niles Jr., Althea Norville, Tristan Niles-Walton, Justin Glenn Niles, Jordan Kylieann Niles and one great grandson, Cecil Carter Niles the fourth.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, August 31, at 10 a.m., Sacred Heart Church, Patterson, with interment following at Maple Avenue Cemetery, Patterson. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, August 30, at Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster, NY.
