Herman G. ‘Bil ’ Rigs , Jr.

Herman G. “Bill” Riggs, Jr., 58, a twelve-year resident of Patterson, formerly of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., died at home on Thursday, September 6, 2012. Mr. Riggs was a telecommunications installer for East Coast Services in Peekskill for many years.

Born January 13, 1954, in Clearwater, Fla., he is the son of Noah and Juanita Adams O’Neal of Vero Beach, Fla. Mr. Riggs was a veteran of the United States Navy, proudly serving from 1972 to 1974. He received the National Defense Service Medal prior to his honorable discharge.

In 2000 at his home in Patterson, he married Susan L. Gronke. Mrs. Riggs survives at home. In addition to his wife and parents he is survived by two children; Dillon Riggs and his wife Kelly of Jacksonville, Fla., and Shannon Puckett and her husband Wesley of Jacksonville; two stepchildren, Frank Perri of Carmel, and Andrea Upright of Wingdale; a sister, Rosie A. Speed of Vero Beach, Fla.; eight loving grandchildren; a niece, Mitzi R. Stewart and a great niece, Brianna M. Billings, both of Vero Beach, Fla., and his mother and father in-law, William and Marie Gronke of Patterson.

Mr. Riggs was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Carmel, and enjoyed spending time with his loving family and grandchildren.

There will be no calling hours. A memorial service took place on Wednesday, September 12, at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, 76 Gleneida Avenue, Carmel, with Rev. Keith Beverly officiating. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
