Alan Schneider Remembered as a Gentleman
Schneider, 63, who ran unsuccessfully against County Executive MaryEllen Odell last November, died suddenly on September 18 while vacationing in Florida.
“Alan was always a gentleman even as a political opponent. He was very generous with his time and volunteered for a wide variety of local organizations. My prayers are with his family,” Odell told the Courier.
Schneider resided in Mahopac and Kent over the years and served for a time on the Carmel Cable Television Committee. He was a former detective of the Westchester County Sheriff’s Department who retired and started an accounting practice with his son Jonathan Schneider who serves on the Carmel Town Board.
Other survivors included his daughters Lauren, Beth and Missy. Nine grandchildren also survive along with his long time companion Helayne Scheier.
Attorney Victor Grossman, chairman of the Putnam County Democratic Committee, remembered his friend as a “family man first. He adored his children and grandchildren. Alan had a ton of friends and colleagues and accomplished much during his lifetime. He will be missed.”
A memorial service took place last Friday in Mahopac. Family members have requested donations be made in Schneider’s name to the Putnam County Children’s Committee, Box 187, Carmel, NY 10512.
