Ernie Kidd, age 96, of North Salem, died Sunday, October 21, 2012, at Danbury Hospital.
Ernie was born August 7, 1916, in Liverpool, England to Harry and Margaret (Lloyd) Kidd. He graduated from schools in England and served in the British Army. Ernie married Phyllis Jenkins on February 25, 1939, in Liverpool. Mrs. Kidd died October 30, 2000.
After coming the America in 1949, Ernie worked as a Maitre d’ at the Orienta Beach Club in Larchmont, and later at Abe Levin’s in Larchmont. He retired in 1994.
Ernie was a volunteer at the Drew Methodist Church Thrift Shop in Carmel. He enjoyed sitting on his deck while listening to music. In addition, he also enjoyed walking his dogs, Buttons and Mellow. Ernie lived in Larchmont for many years, during which time he enjoyed travels to the summer home on Peach Lake in North Salem. After his retirement, the summer home became his permanent residence.
Ernie is survived by his children, Robert B. Kidd and his wife Suzanne of Wakefield, R.I., Gregory N. Kidd and his wife Kate of Louisville, Co., and Leslie M. Sharkey of North Salem; a sister, Joan Marsden of Bristol, England; eight grandchildren, Michael, Jesse, Greg, Harleigh, Joseph, Jessie, Thomas and Maggie; and two great grandchildren, Ben and Morgan.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 27, at 10 a.m. at Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster, with interment following at Peach Pond Cemetery, North Salem. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. www.beecherfuneralhome.com
