Gordon Griggs, of Brewster, died at Putnam Ridge Nursing Home on November 28, 2012, at 96 years of age.
He was born in Toledo, Ohio on July 29, 1916, to Bessie and Walter Griggs. A veteran of WWII, having served with the United States Army Air Corps from 1941 – 1945, as a Staff Sergeant in the European Theater of Operations, he worked most of his life for Westinghouse Elevator Corp.
He is predeceased by his wife, Beatrice of 65 years. He is the loving father of two daughters, Patricia, and son-in-law Stanley of Hickory, N.C., and Mary Ann, and son-in-law Michael of Carmel. He also has five grandchildren: Debra Williams and Michael Williams of Hickory, N.C.; Amy married to Joseph Henry of Briarcliff Manor; Allison married to Timothy Collins of North Salem; and Mary Giovinazzo of Long Beach, NY. He is predeceased by his grandson Joseph Williams, formerly of Wallkill.
His surviving great-grandchildren are Christopher and Cody Ray of Hickory, N.C., Raymond Williams of Kerhonkson, N.Y., Kayla and Shannon Williams of Wallkill, Michael, Elizabeth and Joseph Henry of Briarcliff Manor, and Katie and Ryan Collins of North Salem. Also surviving him is one sister, Gloria Jacobs of Toledo, Ohio, and he is predeceased by one brother, Richard Griggs, formerly of Toledo.
Visitation was held on Sunday, December 2, 2012 from at Cargain Funeral Home, 10 Fowler Avenue, Carmel, and a service was held on Monday, December 3, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Brewster. Interment followed at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
