Bad Weather Delays School Resource Officer Meeting
Rescheduled for February
Monday night's special meeting of the Putnam Legislature's Protective Services Committee dealing with a discussion of county funding for School Resource Officers (SROs) has been postponed due to the inclement weather.
Sheriff Don Smith had been scheduled to attend the forum to discuss safety initiatives found within Putnam's six school districts as well as a proposal implemented by the county's chief school administrators for New York State to reimburse schools for the hiring of additional SROs. Currently, SROs are found at the JFK Elementary School, Henry Wells Middle School and Brewster High School in the Brewster District; at the George Fischer Middle School and Carmel High School in the Carmel District; at the Mahopac Middle and Mahopac High School in the Mahopac District and at the Putnam Valley Middle-Senior High School campus in Putnam Valley.
Each of Putnam's six superintendents of schools was also planning to attend the open session tonight.
Committee chairman Roger Gross decided to cancel the meeting in the wake of the frozen precipitation forecast for this evening.
The meeting has been rescheduled for Feb. 13 at 6:30 p.m.
