Dr. Salvatore Militano

Dr. Salvatore Militano of Brewster died Wednesday, January 23, 2013, in Danbury, CT, at the age of 80.

He was born on April 10, 1932, in Brooklyn, NY, to the late Antonio and Caterina (Muschera) Militano. He served with the Army during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953, and then went on to receive a medical degree from Bologna University School of Medicine and Surgery in Italy. On April 24, 1965, he married Johanna Gaetaniello in Bologna.

Dr. Militano worked as a psychiatrist for the State of Connecticut for 23 years at Fairfield Hills Hospital in Newtown and then at Bridgeport Hospital in Bridgeport. He also worked at Danbury Hospital for 24 years before retiring. He had treated patients privately in Newtown for the past 2 years.

Dr. Militano is survived by his wife Johanna of Brewster, his daughters Alexandra Militano and Antonia Militano Mulé of New York, NY, his brother Vincent Militano of Calabash, NC, and his sisters Mary Rose Caparelli of Mt. Vernon, NY, Catherine Mascali of Staten Island, NY, and Claire Channon of Long Beach, NY.

A mass was celebrated on Monday, January 28, 2013, in St. Lawrence O’Toole Church in Brewster. Internment followed at Milltown Rural Cemetery.
