Elaine R. Symanowitz

Elaine R. Symanowitz of Danbury, Connecticut, died Wed. January 23, 2013, in Danbury at the age of 92.

She was born July 26, 1920, in Blairsville, PA, daughter of the late Frank and Marianna (Hrobak) Layok. She graduated from Schools in Pennsylvania, and attended beautician school. On June 20, 1941 she married Walter Symanowitz, who predeceased her in Oct. 30, 2000.

Mrs. Symanowitz was a member of St. Lawrence O’Toole Church in Brewster, and worked as a nurse’s aide for many years. She had lived in Brewster for 43 years before moving to New Fairfield in 1984, and then moving to Danbury 2 years ago. Mrs. Symanowitz enjoyed cooking and making dresses when she was a younger woman.

She is survived by her son Paul Symanowitz of Danbury, CT; her daughters Joan Rudd of Doylestown, PA, and Elaine VanDeWater of New Fairfield, CT; a brother, Louis Layok of Danbury; five grandchildren, Jason and Victoria Rudd, Paula VanDeWater and Kyle and Keith Symanowitz; and a great grandson, Jack Rudd.

A funeral service was held on January 26, 2013, at Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Ave., Brewster, NY. Interment will be private.
