William F. Zeiler
Bill was born on April 8, 1939, in Brooklyn, to William and Frieda (Doll) Zeiler. He was a 1961 graduate of the City College of New York and he proudly served his country with the US Army Corps of Engineers during the Vietnam Era, 1961-1963. On September 11, 1965, he married Ottilie Schmeltzer in Ridgewood, N.Y. Before his retirement in 1995, he worked as a Civil Engineer for the NYS DOT for 34 years in Poughkeepsie.
Bill was a member of the Yorktown Assembly of God for twenty years, serving the Lord in various ways, including playing in a Chime Choir there and also at the Adirondack Bible Chapel and the North Country Bible Fellowship. He had resided in Speculator, N.Y., with his wife, Ottilie, since 2002 and before that they raised their family living in Mahopac, for 35 years.
In his spare time Bill loved volunteering at Camp of the Woods Christian Family Camp, fluke fishing in Long Island, coaching his sons’ soccer teams, and boating on Lake Pleasant with his grandchildren, as well as attending all his children’s and grandchildren’s sports, concerts, dance recitals, and plays. Music and sports have always filled the Zeiler household.
He is survived by his devoted wife Ottilie, his six loving children: Karen Bender (Carl) of Highland, N.Y., Debra Johnson (David) of Mannsville, N.Y., William (Natalie) of Peoria, Ariz., Steven (Kelly) of Marlton, N.J., Kristin Spinelli (Ethan) of Marlborough, Ct., and David (Melissa) of Mahopac, and twenty adoring grandchildren: Kathryn, Jeannette, Rachel, Peter, Amy, Breana, Cassandra, Shane, Dakota, Laurel, Kara, Heath, Blythe, Caitlyn, Matthew, Megan, Samantha, Eli, Pace and Anyssa. A visitation will be held on Friday, March 1, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.at Cargain Funeral Homes, Inc., 418 US 6, Mahopac, 10541, 845- 628-5655.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 2, at 11 a.m. at the Yorktown Assembly of God, 253 Mahopac Avenue, Yorktown Heights, N.Y. 10598 , 914- 628-7444. Interment will follow at Ballard Barrett Cemetery, Mahopac Falls.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in Speculator, N.Y., in early July.
