Kathleen M. Wood

Kathleen M. Wood, of Leander, Tx., formally of Brewster, died at home with her family by her side on Friday March 1, 2013. She was 88 years old.

Mrs. Wood was born December 17, 1924, in Richmond Hill, NY to the late William Proudfoot and Kate (Murray) Moffat. She graduated from Richmond Hill High School and Adelphi College with a Bachelor of Science in nursing. She also took classes during the summers at Western Connecticut to augment her education so she could teach elementary school. She married Kenneth E. Wood on October 9, 1948 in Richmond Hill Methodist Church. Mr. Wood predeceased his wife on March 17, 2008.

Mrs. Wood was a member of United Methodist Church in Brewster, NY before moving to Texas.

She was a registered nurse, then substituted as a school nurse and an elementary school teacher, before becoming a third grade teacher in the North Salem School District, where she taught for over 30 years. After retirement she spent several years as a Pink Lady at Putnam Community Hospital.

Mrs. Wood is survived her three children, Lawrence (Larry) of Brewster; Paul and his wife Ivacy of Leander, Tx.; and Jeanne McMurray and her husband Arthur of Carmel; and six grandchildren. She was predeceased by her siblings and her Daughter in- Law Jill Wood.

A graveside service will be held on Friday March 8, at Milltown Rural Cemetery, Brewster. Interment will follow the service. Visitation will be on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster.
