Florie Leads Mahopac Girls to Track and Field Win
The Mahopac boys lost to Yorktown, 90-67.
And the Carmel track and field team turned in several outstanding performances over the weekend at the Red Raider Meet.
Florie was spectacular in winning three early running events that helped stake Mahopac to an early lead. She took the 1,500-meter run in a time of 4 minutes, 54.8 seconds, easily winning the event by more than 15 seconds.
Florie also won the 800-meters in a time of 2:28.8, edging out a Yorktown runner by just 1.2 seconds to claim the event. And she won the 3,000 meters, covering the distance in a time of 11:32.1.
Teammate Meaghan Simmonds won the 400 dash with a time of 65.6 seconds, almost four seconds better than the runnerup. Simmonds also ran the opening leg of the victorious 1,600-meter relay, while teammate Johanna Dundan finished things off by taking the shot put event with a toss of 26 feet, 4 inches.
In the boys’ meet, Mahopac’s Josh Lewis was a double individual winner and a relay event winner as well. Lewis won the triple jump with a leap of 34 feet, 10 inches; won the 200-dash in a time of 24.7 seconds; and ran the anchor leg of the victorious 400-meter relay team.
CARMEL SHINES AT NORTH ROCKLAND
At the Red Raider Meet, held on Friday and Saturday at North Rockland, Carmel turned in several solid performances.
The boys’ distance medley relay team also took first place as the same quartet ran the event in a time of 10:31:95, just .57 of a second off the meet record.
But Holt got his meet record in the 3,200 meters with a time of 9:18.47.
Grayson Wright placed second in the pole vault at 10 feet for the boys Freshman/Sophomore category.
The girls distance medley relay team took third place with a time of 13:32.18, featuring Andrea Cortina, Cameryn Curry, Katherine McCormack and Clare McNerney.
