Michael D. McAnaw

Michael D. McAnaw, a 16-year resident of Somers, died Thursday, May 9, 2013, at Putnam Hospital Center. Born July 23, 1956, in Brooklyn, to Michael and Carol Ann (McHugh) McAnaw of Brooklyn, he graduated from Brooklyn College with a B.S. degee. On October 9, 1988, Michael married Judi Rubin in Cambridge, Mass.

Mr. McAnaw was a financial advisor for 20 years, with the Bank of New York and most recently with Edward Jones Investments in Somers. Through the years, he served many community organizations including as past president of the Somers Chamber of Commerce and more recently president of the No. Salem Chamber of Commerce. He was an honoree of the Somers Education Fdn., active with the Somers Library, a past board member of Temple Beth Elohim and an avid Mets, Rangers and Syracuse basketball fan. He enjoyed the outdoors, hiking and kayaking.

Michael’s daughters were the center of his life. He enjoyed traveling with them and participating in school events such as Sarah’s marching band. He was there to assist Emma with her Gold Award through Girl Scouts as well.

In addition to his parents and his wife of 24 years, Mr. McAnaw is survived by his two children, Sarah and Emma McAnaw, of Somers; three sisters, Kathleen Feminella of Millburn, N.J., Colleen Russo, and Linda McAnaw McGuinness, both of Brooklyn; his mother-in-law, Suzanne Rubin of New Bedford, Mass; and ten nieces and nephews, Carol Grauer, Cassie Russo, John Feminella, James Russo, Jack Rubin, Drew Burke, Josh Rubin, Evan Burke, Veronica McGuinness and Michael Mc- Guinness.

A funeral service was held Tuesday, May 14, at Temple Beth Elohim, Brewster, with interment following at King David Cemetery, Putnam Valley. The Beecher Funeral Home of Brewster assisted with the funeral arrangements.

Mr. McAnaw’s family sat Shiva on Tuesday afternoon following the funeral services, Wednesday afternoon, and on Thursday from 1 to 8 p.m.
