Erna B. Rich

Erna Rich, longtime Brewster resident, died on April 28. She was 93.

Mrs. Rich was born on December 24, 1919, in Brewster, the daughter of Herman and Barbara (Stocek) Blache. She graduated from Brewster High School in 1935 at age fifteen. She received her degree in education from New Paltz in 1938. After a brief career, she retired from teaching to raise her family.

Mrs. Rich was an accomplished bridge player, an avid golfer, and an expert gardener. She was active in many civic organizations, as well as her church, St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, in Brewster. Above all, she was tremendously devoted to her family. She cherished being included in the lives of everyone she cared for and inspired.

Mrs. Rich was predeceased by her husband, former Putnam County Clerk, C. William Rich, in 1988. She is survived by C. William Rich Jr. and wife Sharon of Hightown, Va., John Rich and wife Nancy of Marshfield, Ma., Christopher Rich and wife Virginia of Wayland, Ma., Peter Rich of Delray Beach, Fla., and Suzanne Rich of Danbury, Ct.; her grandchildren, Michael and wife Shannah, Kristan, Christopher, Adam, Lindsay, Jeffrey and Kevin; and great granddaughter Tess.
