John Knapp

John Knapp, of Brewster, died Thursday June 6, 2013, at home with his loving family by his side. He was 90 years old.

Mr. Knapp was born on November 28, 1922, in Pleasantville. He was the son of the late Harry and Mary (Horan) Knapp. John joined the United States Army and served during WWII.

Mr. Knapp married Evelyn McClure on May 11, 1941, in Ossining. Evelyn predeceased John on February 4, 2008.

John was the owner of John Knapp Contractors, where he was the general contractor for 30 years. After retiring from contracting he opened John Knapp Sporting Goods in Brewster. That store was open for 25 years before closing.

Mr. Knapp is survived by his children, Gerald and his wife Virginia of Brewster, Margaret Lauro and her husband Robert of Patterson, and Ronald of Sarasota, Fla.; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter Dolores Knapp in 1988 and his son John Knapp, Jr. in 2003.

A graveside service took place on Friday June 7, 2013, at Milltown Rural Cemetery. Beecher Funeral Home assisted with the arrangements.

He will be greatly missed.
