Richard E. "Hap" Sprague

Richard E. “Hap” Sprague of Patterson, died at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was 62 years old.

Hap was born in Patterson, NY, on February 4, 1951, son of the late David C. and Helen (Burdick) Sprague. He attended Carmel central school. In 1968 he joined the United States Marine Corps where he fought during the Vietnam War. He won several awards while serving.

Richard was a heavy equipment operator for the Town of Patterson after returning home from war. He worked for them for 18 years.

He loved his motorcycle, and working with heavy equipment.

Besides his mother, Helen, of Patterson, he is survived by his daughter; Nicole Sprague of Patterson; his grandchildren David Lynch and Alexis Glatz; and his sister Janette Morgan of Melbourne, Fla. He was predeceased by his son Richard “Ricky” Sprague on July 30, 1999.

A funeral service was held on Saturday August 3, at Dwyer Funeral Home, 23 South Street, Patterson, NY 12563. Interment followed at Maple Avenue Cemetery. Contributions in his memory may be made to the St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital, 70 Dubois St, Newburgh, NY, 12550,www.stlukescornwallhospital.org.
