Alfred E. Schutz

Alfred E. Schutz, age 83, of Brewster, died Monday, August 19, 2013, in Carmel.

Mr. Schutz was born in Queens, on October 21, 1929, to Albert and Elizabeth (Vandergrifth) Schutz. He was graduated from Garrison Beach High School and from the Mechanical Institute in NYC with an Associate’s Degree. Mr. Schutz served in the Navy during the Korean War on the US Antietam CV36.

Mr. Schutz married June M. Ormsby January 13, 1950, in Coney Island, Brooklyn. Mrs. Schutz died January 2, 2011.

Mr. Schutz was a range officer and instructor with the NYPD for 20 years, having retired in 1973.

A member of both the NYC PBA and the Brewster VFW Post 672, Mr. Schutz enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and travel. Back in the day, he could be found skiing ,as well. A longtime resident of Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, Mr. Schutz spent summers in Brewster from 1962 until 1965, when he moved there permanently.

Mr. Schutz is survived by his daughter Susan and her husband Robert of Myrtle Beach, S.C. and his son Steven A. Schutz and his wife Yvonne of Pawling; five grandchildren, Thomas, Heather, Jennifer, Kevin and James; and a great granddaughter, Olivia.

A funeral service was held on Wednesday, August 21, 2013, at the Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster, with a private cremation following. Friends called at the funeral home on Wednesday. www.beecherfuneralhome.com
