Mahopac boy finds needle in slice of bread

Eric Gross

Police on the local and state levels are investigating an incident of consumer product tampering after a 15 year old Mahopac boy Friday found a hypodermic needle in a slice of white bread.

The teen’s mother called Carmel Police after her son observed the foreign substance while biting into a slice of toast and, when advised the loaf of bread had been purchased the day before at the Stop & Shop Supermarket located on Route 6 in Baldwin Place, State Police were notified.  The teenager was not injured.

Somers State Police Investigator Cornelius Merritt who is handling the case, said both the store as well as the bakers—Bimbo Bakeries—were notified of the incident along with the Putnam and Westchester Health Departments and the NYS Consumer Product Tampering database.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Merritt at 914-769-2600. All calls will be kept confidential.
