Loretto M. Leeds

Loretto M. Leeds, age 89, of New Fairfield, formerly a 25-year resident of Carmel, died Thursday, November 21, 2013, at home.

Mrs. Leeds was born January 4, 1924, to James W. and Loretto (Collins) Lang. She graduated from schools in Queens and Iona College in New Rochelle, N.Y.

Mrs. Leeds was the beloved wife of Thomas J. Leeds who died on October 28, 2003. She was a medical office manager for the oncology dept. of Westchester Medical Center for two years, retiring in 1976. She had worked for various private medical offices around Westchester for 10 years prior. More recently, Mrs. Leeds assisted at her daughter’s dance school, Taps N Toes, in Brewster. She was known to all students as the ‘candy lady.’

Mrs. Leeds was a member of both the American Association of Medical Assistants out of Chicago and Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Brewster. She was an avid world traveler, traveling to many destinations with her daughter Anne.

Mrs. Leeds was a very kind and loving woman. Her infectious smile and love for friends around her made it a pleasure to be in her company. Always the life of the party, she will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Mrs. Leeds is survived by her loving daughter Anne Cleary of New Fairfield, CT, with whom she made her home. She was pre-deceased by her brother Donald J. Lang and sisters Jeanne Overlees and Marjorie Larsen.

A Traditional Requiem Mass was celebrated on Monday, November 25, at The Society of St. Pius X’s Christ the King Chapel, Ridgefield, CT, with interment following at Milltown Rural Cemetery, Brewster. Contributions in Loretto’s memory may be made to the New Fairfield/Sherman Animal Welfare Society Inc.
