Santa braves the elements in Mahopac Falls
Old Man Winter didn’t deter a 40-plus year old tradition for the Mahopac Falls Fire Department.
Despite a steady snowfall and slippery roads, members of the county’s third busiest volunteer fire service ventured out-of-doors Saturday and delivered candy canes to hundreds of boys and girls throughout the fire district.
Veteran firefighter Jack Casey who hasn’t missed a candy cane run in years, said the “inclement weather really energized the guys. Chains were placed on fire trucks. Sirens began to wail and the annual tradition got underway.”
Santa and his elves were greeted by Bethany and Samantha Itzla who thanked the “brave men” for keeping the tradition alive.
