Dorothy Compton Simpson

Longtime Carol Woods (Chapel Hill, N.C.) resident Dorothy Deane Compton Simpson, 97, died peacefully Sunday, January 19, 2014, following a short illness. She was born July 13, 1916, in Newton, Mass., to James and Minnie Rushforth Compton.

She was a graduate of Hartwick College and achieved a Master’s Degree from New York University. Dot was a high school math teacher and also served as chairman of her department in the Mahopac School System. She was united in marriage on December 17, 1949, to The Rev. H. Pierce Simpson in Carmel. He preceded her in death on November 16, 1968. Following her retirement, she moved to Chapel Hill, N.C.

Dot is survived by her cousins and by her husband’s family; Step Daughters-in law Priscilla Simpson and Edith Simpson, Grandchildren Sue Simpson, Brian Simpson and P. T. Simpson Jr. Celebration of Mrs. Simpson’s life was held at Olin T. Binkley Memorial Baptist Church, Chapel Hill, N.C.
