Leon Gormley

Leon Gormley passed away at the home of his son in Stormville, NY, Saturday, February 1, 2014.

A resident of Stormville for the past 4½ years, he had previously resided in Brasher Falls, NY. Born in Boston, MA, on February 29, 1928, he was the son of Howard F. Gormley, Sr. and Elizabeth (McManus) Gormley. He served in the U.S. Navy during W.W. II, and on August 22, 1953, he married Patricia Ann Dykeman in Pawling; she predeceased him in 1970.

Leon was the head custodian for the North Salem Central School District, retiring on August 22, 1995, and he was a member of the CSEA at the North Salem School District.

He is survived by three sons, Leon H. Gormley and his wife, Amelia, of New Mexico, Timothy C. Gormley and his wife, Ann, of Stormville, and Douglas E. Gormley of Massena, NY; two daughters, Patricia Cayea and her husband,

Harland, of Massena; and Leah Mansfield and her husband, Brian, of Putnam Valley; nine grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews; and his best friend of many years, Karen Jean of Benson, VT.

In addition to his wife and parents, he is predeceased by his brother Howard, Jr. and his sister Elaine.

Calling hours are Thursday, February 6, from 7-9 PM at the Horn & Thomes, Inc. Funeral Home, 83 East Main St., Pawling, NY. The funeral home will be open on Friday at 10 AM and a service will be conducted at the funeral home at 11 AM. Burial will be in the spring.
