Bicyclist killed in SoutheastFree Access


A 56-year-old Connecticut bicyclist was killed Friday morning when struck by a car while pedaling along Route 6 in front of the Brewster Medical Group in Southeast.

The Sheriff’s Dept. said the victim was traveling westbound when he attempted to make a U-turn and was struck broadside by a vehicle overtaking him.

Drs. Frank and Matthew Kessler rushed from their office to aid the victim and commenced CPR seconds after the crash. A 9-1-1 call sent police, fire and EMS personnel to the scene.

The gravely injured cyclist was rushed to Danbury Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The identities of those involved have not been released pending notification of next of kin.

The driver of the car was not injured.

Route 6 in Southeast, also known as the Danbury-Brewster Road, was closed to traffic until noon allowing for accident reconstruction to take place.
