Carmela (Toglia) Picchione, age 99, passed away peacefully at Danbury Hospital on April 18, 2017. She was a resident of Glen Hill Nursing Home since March 2008.
Carmela was born in New Rochelle, NY, the daughter of Conio and Vincenza (Germano) Toglia. She married Louis Picchione in 1935 and then they moved to Carmel, NY in 1943. Her husband Louis was a school bus driver in Carmel and Mahopac, NY for many years and passed away in 1971.
Carmela resided in Carmel, NY for over 50 years. She moved to Bishop Curtis Homes in August 2001 and resided there until 2008. She had many wonderful friends and her “joy” was people visiting her apartment and enjoying a meal with her.
Carmela is survived by her daughter Marie and husband John Crowell Sr. of Danbury; two sons, Frank Picchione and former wife Irene of Wilton, CT and Louis Picchione and fiancee Camille Watson of Newtown, CT.
Carmela will be sadly missed by her six grandchildren and their respective spouses; Donna and Dales Jones of New Fairfield, CT, John Crowell Jr. and fiancée Christine Paulson, Sandra and Glenn Raffaele of New Milford, CT, Frank Picchione Jr. of New York, NY, Nicholas and Heather Picchione of Greenwich and Michele and Kevin Kelly of Wilton, CT. Carmela is also survived by several nieces and nephews and their families.
Carmela is also survived by six great grandchildren; Michael and Paige Raffaele, Nicholas and Olivia Picchione and Brooke and Tatum Kelly. Carmela was predeceased by two brothers; Conio and Patrick Toglia, and two sisters; Angelina Bonamicino and Florence Toglia.
Her family would like to extend their deep appreciation to the wonderful health care workers and staff who cared for Carmela throughout her many years at Glen Hill Nursing Home. Each of you touched her life in your own way.
Carmela will be sadly missed. She was a wonderful, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to all.
The family received friends on Saturday, April 22, 2017 from 9:30am – 10:30am at Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, CT. A Memorial Service was celebrated at Green Funeral Home on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 10:30am. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at a later date at St. Joseph Church, Danbury, CT. Interment was private.
