Budgets in each of Putnam’s six school districts were approved Tuesday by substantial margins with larger than normal turnouts as a result of only absentee voting.
In Brewster, the fiscal spending plan was approved 2,217 to 1,455 as was a second proposition for the purchase of new school buses.
Carmel School District residents authorized spending by a tally of 3,169 to 2,741while in Mahopac where 10,000 votes were cast the largest ever in the history of the school district the budget was approved 3,608 to 2,083 while the Mahopac Library Budget which was contained on the school budget ballot was approved 3,661 to 1,954.
On the western side of the county, school budgets were also overwhelming approved in Garrison, Haldane and Putnam Valley.
The North Salem School District budget was also greeted favorably by residents.
Despite the victories, three incumbent school trustees–one each in Brewster, Carmel and Mahopac–were turned from office.
