Dirk Johannes Jongeneel, age 61, passed away November 19, 2015 in Carmel, New York. He was born on May 25, 1954 in Port Chester, NY to Dorothy Claire Condon Jongeneel and James C. Jongeneel.
Dirk worked as a mechanic for over 30 years, but also held jobs such as estate caretaker and antique car restorer. He had owned his own business, Dirk’s Auto Repair, in Lake Carmel. He was particularly known for his love for his parents, whom he cared for in their home, but also for his love of animals, and especially for his cat, Tinky. His gentle, curious nature and uncanny ability to fix things were only two of many endearing qualities he had.
Dirk is survived by his sisters, Margaret (Vicky) Lee of Charlottesville, VA, and Jill Dhillon of Los Angeles, CA, his nephew, Tom, and nieces, Beth, Jessica, Annalise, and Heather. Distribution of his ashes will be private. Memorial donations may be made in Dirk’s name to the Putnam Humane Society, PO Box 297, Carmel, NY 10512, or to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 1311 Mamaroneck Ave., Suite 310, White Plains, NY 10605.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, April 16, 2016, at The Croton Falls Presbyterian Church, 609 Route 22, Croton Falls, NY 10519.
