Drew Allan Outhouse

Drew Allan Outhouse, a lifelong resident of Croton Falls, NY, died peacefully on July 11, 2021, at Northern Westchester Hospital with his family by his side. He was 73 years old.

Born on September 14, 1947, in Mt. Kisco, NY, son of the late A. Purdy and Ada (Petersen) Outhouse. Drew was a graduate of North Salem High School.

On January 20, 1968, Drew married the love of his life Catherine Alice Oropallo in Brewster, NY.

Drew was the highway superintendent for the Town of North Salem for 30 years before retiring in 2009. He was the past president of the North Salem Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Republican Committee, and a past Scout Master. Drew was also a member of the Croton Falls Fire Department for over 46 years, he was a past chief and a current Fire Commissioner. Drew and his wife were active parishioners of St. Joseph’s Church, Somers, NY.

One of Drew’s greatest passion in life was Outhouse Orchards, a family business that was started by his grandfather, AJ Outhouse over 100 years ago. He enjoyed cooking, gardening, listening to music and spending time at Brant Lake. However, his greatest passion and love was his family.

Mr. Outhouse is not only survived by his loving wife Catherine, but also his three children; Michael Outhouse and his wife Liz of Mahopac, NY, James Outhouse and his wife Diane of Croton Falls, NY and Lori Outhouse of Croton Falls, NY, his 5 grandchildren; Sarah, Timothy, Samantha, Allison, and Regan, and his siblings; Janice Finlay, Purdy Outhouse and his wife Carol and Wayne Outhouse and his wife Kathy. He was predeceased by his sister Betty Hermsen.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Thursday July 15, 2021, at St. Joseph’s Church at 10am. Interment followed at June Cemetery, North Salem, NY. Visitation was held on Wednesday July 14, 2021, at Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster, NY from 4pm-8pm. Please visit Beecherfuneralhome.com to send the family condolences.

Mr. Outhouse was well-known in firefighting circles both in Westchester and Putnam Counties, and emergency responders from across the region converged on St. Joseph’s Church in Somers to pay their respects to a man who devoted his life to the emergency services field. The Croton Falls FD he served for 46 years covers sections of the Towns of Carmel and Southeast in addition to the greater North Salem area and is frequently summoned under the county’s mutual aid plan when needed in Mahopac, Mahopac Falls, Carmel or Brewster.
