Earl, as he was called, was born on June 18, 1917, to Arthur and Nettie (Severcool) Bowman in Hinckley, Ohio. He graduated from Brunswick High School in 1935, received a Bachelor of Music Education from Baldwin Wallace College in Berea, Ohio in 1939 and went on to receive a Master of Arts in Music Education from New York University in 1966.
Earl proudly served our country in the US Army signal corps during World War 2, and participated in the Battle of Okinawa. He was proud to be an American and an advocate for all service men and women. While stationed in Fort Monmouth, NJ, he met Marjorie (Hosmer) Bowman, the love of his life and they were married September 1944. Together they were blessed with four children, Janet, David, Louise and Neal.
After serving in the military, Earl resumed his career as a music teacher, teaching in New Jersey, Florida and Wyoming. In addition, he sometimes worked as the choir director for local churches where his wife, Marjorie, would play the organ. He retired from the Natrona County School System, Casper, WY in 1980.
In 1996, he and his wife moved to Carmel, to be closer to family. During his many years of retirement, he became known and respected as the family historian as he devoted himself to his family and to researching family history. He traveled all over the country to visit places where his and his wife’s ancestors had lived and visited many relatives to get their stories, gather materials and reconnect.
Raised a Methodist, he later became a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church of the Larger Fellowship. Earl was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather and was fortunate enough through his longevity to be a greatgrandfather.
Earl is survived by his beloved children and their spouses, Janet and Stephen Kreha of Madison, NJ, David Bowman and Jean Richmond of Flagstaff AZ, Louise and Martin Farber of Carmel, NY, Neal and Patty Bowman of Cranston RI., his grandchildren Victoria Kreha, Gregory Kreha, Phoebe Farber, Hallie Farber, Joe Bowman, Kaitlin Bowman, Nicole Bowman, Samantha Bowman and three great grandchildren, Tanner Bowman, Lily Bowman and Sloane Kreha, who all had a special place in Earl’s heart.
