Harry W. Vrabel, of Brewster, NY, died peacefully at home with his family by his side on Thursday, June 14, 2018. He was 91 years old.
Born on November 28, 1926, in Yonkers, NY, son of Harry H. and Helen (Kraynak) Vrabel. Mr. Vrabel attended Saunders High School and honorably served in the United States Navy.
On August 21, 1949, Harry married the love of his life Ruth Lawless at St. Dennis Church in Yonkers. They were lucky to enjoy 69 years together.
Mr. Vrabel was a conductor with New York Central Railroad for 42 years before retiring in 1990. He was a parishioner of St. Lawrence O’ Toole Church in Brewster, NY and enjoyed hunting, fishing and visiting his cabin in the Catskills. He was a member of the VFW post 672 in Brewster and an avid Giants fan.
Besides his wife Ruth of 69 years, Harry is survived by his three children, Robert W. (Andrea) Vrabel of Brewster, NY, Carol Lynn Philhower of Millbrook, NY and Laura Ann Vrabel De- Paoli of Millbrook, NY, his 3 grandchildren; Robert, Ryan and Tyler, his 3 great grandchildren; Ryan, Madison and Robert and 1 great grandson, Erik, on the way.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday, June 18, 2018, 11AM at St. Lawrence O’Toole Church. Friends called on Monday morning just prior to the funeral mass at the Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster, NY from 9am-10:30am. A private cremation followed the funeral mass.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Harry’s memory to Hospice Care in Westchester & Putnam Inc., 540 White Plains Rd., Tarrytown, NY 10591 AND/OR St. Lawrence O’Toole Church, 31 Prospect St., Brewster, NY 10509.
