John Joseph Lynch, of Brewster, NY, died on May 18, 2021, at Putnam Hospital Center. He was 91 years old.
John was born on November 28, 1929, in Ballinasig, Dingle, County Kerry Ireland, son of the late Michael and Mary (O’Dowd) Lynch.
In 1954, John emigrated to the United States. On April 18, 1959, he married the love of his life Eileen Leahy at St. Justin’s Church in Hartford, CT. Together they moved to NYC and later, in 1973, to Brewster, NY where they created a life of faith, family, and love.
John was a dedicated worker driving a bus for the MTA in NYC for 23 years before retiring in 1982. He did not stop there, continuing to work as a caretaker for an estate in Cross River, NY until the age of 85. John was a devoted Catholic and active parishioner of St. Lawrence O’ Toole Church since 1973. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #1495, the Emerald Society, and Kerrymen’s Association.
John is not only survived by his loving wife of 62 years Eileen, but also his children; John M. Lynch and his wife Linda of Watertown, CT, Thomas G. Lynch and his wife Janine of Sarver, PA, Patrick F. Lynch and his wife Katherine of New Fairfield, CT and his daughter-in-law Mary Liz Lynch of New Rochelle, NY, his grandchildren; John L. Lynch, Michael P. Lynch, Conor P. Lynch, Patrick W. Lynch, Brendan T. Lynch, Matthew E. Lynch, Kevin J. Lynch, James R. Lynch, Daniel M. Lynch, and Jeannine E. Lynch, and his siblings; Maureen, Patrick and Eileen. John was predeceased by his son James (Jim) and his siblings, Daniel, Thomas and Michael.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Friday May 21, 2021, at 10am at St. Lawrence O’Toole Church, Prospect Street, Brewster. Interment followed at St. Lawrence O’Toole Cemetery, Brewster. Visitation was held on Thursday May 20, 2021, at Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster, NY from 4pm-7:30pm.
