John P. Autorino, age 81, of Wappingers Falls, NY, died Sunday, December 16, 2018, in Wayne, NJ.
He was born April 4, 1937, in Mt. Vernon, NY to Peter J. and Nancy (Paldino) Autorino. A graduate of Catholic Schools in Mt. Vernon, John furthered his education receiving a bachelor’s from Iona College in New Rochelle, NY. He proudly served in the Marines from 1960 to 1965.
John married Cristane Simmons on May 19, 1990, at the Mt. Vernon Elks Lodge, Mt. Vernon, NY.
John was the Director of the Vesting Unit for Housing Preservation and Development with the City of New York for 30 years. He retired in the 1990s.
John was a longtime resident of Mt. Vernon before his marriage to Cristane at which time they made the Bronx their home until 2002. For the past thirteen years they have called Wappingers Falls their home.
As a proud American, John found himself volunteering for many years with the Westchester County Sheriff’s Department, retiring as a Lieutenant. A longtime member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, John was past Grand Exalted Ruler District Deputy and member of the Brewster Lodge #2101. An avid Bowler, John bowled with two leagues, the Good Oldtimers and the Friday Senior Mix. John was also a master craftsman, enjoying Leather Crafting.
Besides his wife Cristane of 28 years, John is survived by his son Robert (Linda) Autorino; his daughter Sharon (Sean) McSorley of Rye, NY; step-daughters Nikola Rodriguez of Bronx, NY and Tonya Carmona of Nashville, TN; 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; a cousin, Anthony (Janice) of Hyde Park, NY, and a nephew, Nicholas (Isabella) Autorino. John was pre-deceased by his two brothers.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2018, at 11AM at the Brewster BPO ELKS Lodge #2101, 1430-32 Milltown Rd., Brewster, NY 10509. A private cremation was held earlier.
