Josephine “Josie” Kassey




Josephine Kassey, ‘Josie’, age 91, of Putnam Lake, died Monday, July 7, 2014, in Danbury, CT.

Josie was born on February 7, 1923 in Manhattan, daughter of the late Gaetano and Anna (Parlatto) Corsaro. She graduated from St. Patrick’s Cathedral School.

Josie married Ernest Kassay on April 18, 1943 in the Bronx. Together they spent summers in Putnam Lake since 1951 and moved there in 1986. Mr. Kassey passed in 1996.

Josie had been a secretary for Schildwatcher Fuel in the Bronx for many years. She was a Catholic daughter and member of Sacred Heart Church, as well as a member of the Sacred Heart senior citizens. She was also a member of the Italian American Club in Brewster. Josie enjoyed reading, trips to the casino and Cape Cod, and was an avid Yankees fan.

Her grandchildren were everything to her, and she never missed a milestone in their lives. She was very proud of her family and loved them immensely.

Josie is survived by her two children, Ernest Kassay and his wife Karen of Putnam Lake, and Anne Paolo of Putnam Lake; a sister Mary Forbes of Hopewell Jct., NY; four granddaughters, Deborah Ann Koplar, Victoria Ann Holmberg, Christine Marie Bates and Suzanne Josephine Rodosky; six great grandchildren, Stuart, Eric, Madison, Ashley, Rachel and Ryan.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 10, 2014 at 10:30 AM at Sacred Heart Church, Putnam Lake. Interment will follow at St. Lawrence O’Toole Cemetery, Brewster.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Josie’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 AND/OR Putnam Humane Society, Box 297, Carmel, NY 10512
