MATILDA ‘TILLIE’ TARR




Matilda “Tillie” Tarr of Brewster died Tuesday January 3, 2012, in Somers, at the age of 88.

Mrs. Tarr was born January 22, 1923, in Port Chester, NY, the daughter of the late Philip and Carmela (Pace) Perry. She graduated from Port Chester High School and married John C. Tarr in Corpus Christi Church in Port Chester on Aug. 5, 1944.

They moved to Brewster in 1958, where Mrs. Tarr worked for many years as a High School Principal Secretary for Brewster High School, and became members of St. Lawrence O’Toole Church.

Mrs. Tarr was predeceased by her husband, John, on Jan. 13, 1983. She is survived by her two sons—John Tarr and his wife, Elizabeth, of Mahopac, and Richard Tarr and his wife, Donna, of Brewster; four sisters—Dorothy of Louisville, Colo., Barbara of Micco, Fla., Josephine of Barnegat, NJ, and Angela of Cedar Grove, NJ; two brothers—Philip of North Palm Beach, Fla., and Richard of Barefoot Bay, Fla.; and six grandchildren. She was also predeceased by her daughter Joy Tartaglino in 1957.

A mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Tuesday, January 10, 2012, at 10 a.m. at St. Lawrence O’Toole Church in Brewster.

Interment followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Port Chester. Calling hours were Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Ave., Brewster, NY.
