Norma Marie Miller


Norma Marie Miller, of Pawling, New York, died on Monday, May 7, 2018, in Danbury, Connecticut. She was 85.

Born on August 30, 1932, in New Rochelle, Norma was the daughter of Martin and Margaret (Breny) Elceser. In 1949, she graduated from Pawling High School.

On March 11, 1951, Norma married the love of her life, Morris J. “Mike” Miller, in New Canaan, Connecticut. After 65 years of marriage, Mike died on March 8, 2016.

Mrs. Miller was a Community Relations Manager with Guideposts in Carmel for 31 years before retiring in 1994. Norma was a member of the Holmes United Methodist Church and enjoyed preparing the spaghetti sauce for the semiannual dinner. She was an active volunteer with the Salvation Army, Red Cross and Putnam County CAP. She was a board member of Reed Library. Norma was the biggest fan of UCONN women’s basketball. She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, canning, puzzles and watching Jeopardy. While Norma had many hobbies, her greatest joy came from spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Norma is survived by her two children: James M. Miller and his wife, Malda, of Pawling and Janice M. Hackett and her husband, Jeffrey, of Pawling; eight grandchildren: Mary Shelley, Robert Rompon, Michael Miller, Nicholas Miller, Richard Miller, Jessica Pulford, Matthias Hackett, Margo Hackett; nine greatgrandchildren with one on the way; and one great-greatgrandchild on the way. She is also survived by her siblings Martha Muller, Patricia Porter, and Mike Elceser. She was predeceased by her grandson Thomas Miller.

A funeral service was held on Thursday, May 10, 2018 at 1 p.m. at Dwyer Funeral Home, 23 South Street, Patterson. Interment followed at Pawling Rural Cemetery, Pawling. Visitation was prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations, in Norma’s memory, be made to the Holmes United Methodist Church “Kitchen Modernization Fund.” Holmes Methodist Church, P.O. Box 146, 41 Holmes Road, Holmes, N.Y. 12531.
