Norman Olsen




Norman Olsen, 77, of Garrison (Continental Village) died February 14, 2016. Born in Mt. Vernon, NY, he attended Goddard College and served two years in the U.S. Navy, including the 1958 intervention in Lebanon. An engineer, he designed highways for the New York Department of Transportation until his retirement in 2005. He also worked part time as an inspector for the Continental Village Water District for many years, and volunteered for the Continental Village Fire Department in the 1960s and 1970s. More recently, he was a member of the Putnam County Traffic Safety Committee and the Friends of the Desmond-Fish Library and was active in the Mahopac Writers’ Group.

Survivors include a daughter, Heather Olsen of Hyattsville, MD, a sister, Elizabeth Altham, of Durand, IL, and seven nieces and nephews. His wife Sue died in 2008.

Family and friends are invited to join in celebrating his memory on Saturday, April 2, at 2pm at the Continental Village Clubhouse, 49 Highland Drive, Garrison. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lamont- Doherty Earth Observatory, Development Office, 61 Route 9W, Palisades, NY 10964. Contributions will support their annual open house, in which Mr. Olsen was a longtime participant.
