Robert A. Pedersen, a 64 year resident of Brewster, NY, died peacefully on October 27, 2017, at home. He was 90 years old.
Born on June 30, 1927, in Brooklyn, NY, son of the late Erick J. and Bergit (Hansen) Pedersen. Robert was a graduate of Brooklyn schools and began his studies at SUNY Farmingdale before being drafted into the Army where he served in the medical corps from April 1946 till May of 1947. He then returned to his studies and in 1949 received an Associate’s degree in Animal Husbandry.
Following graduation, Robert worked for the Dairymans League in Massena, NY and later to Corry, PA as a foreman in the manufacturing of powdered milk.
It was at this time that he met the love of his life, Agnes E. Yarina and returned to New York to be married at Mary Magdalene Roman Catholic Church in Pocantico Hills, NY. Agnes predeceased Robert on July 4, 2004.
In 1951, Robert then worked for a small milk producer in Tilly Foster, just west of Brewster. In 1953, he then worked for an Open Die Forging company called the Viking Forge Company in Brooklyn, NY, owned by his grandfather. At this point, Robert’s father was president and trained Robert in the blacksmith shop until his death in 1961. Robert then became president and remained president until 1971 when due to a shortage of qualified workman to continue to teach to trade, Robert had to sell his families business, but as luck would have it, he met a fellow iron worker who was interested in forming his own business and together they set up a small shop in Poughkeepsie, NY known as Viking Ironworks. They became well known for quality, service and dependability serving the metal industry along the East Coast and Midwest.
Although Robert worked hard, his family was paramount. When he found some time in and around work and family, he enjoyed woodworking, genealogy, computers, fishing and photography. He was an avid Giants fan as well.
Robert is survived by his four daughters, Margie Dininny of Hornell, NY, Ann E. (Buddy) Nicoletti of Valhalla, NY, Suzan Rich of Brewster, NY and Roberta (Jeff) Peterson of Voorheeseville, NY. Seven grandchildren, Jason Dininny, Laurie and Joey Nicoletti, Jeff and Kevin Rich and Rachel and Josh Peterson. Three great-grandchildren, Kaleb, Koralee and Karoline Dininny.
