Robert B. Johnson

March 12, 1944 – December 7, 2021


Robert Bishop Johnson, “Bob”, 77, passed away, Tuesday, December 7, 2021, at the Firemen’s Home in Hudson, NY.

Born on March 12, 1944, in Mount Vernon, NY, he was the son of the late Henry Johnson and Emma (Bishop) Johnson.

After graduating from Carmel High School in 1962, he went to work for New York State Electric and Gas. A hard worker, Bob became a First Class Lineman after only four years, and later became a Chief Lineman after 13 years. Bob retired in 2000 after 37 years of service with New York State Electric and Gas.

In June of 1964, Bob married Jean Montgomery and lived in the Town of Kent for over 40 years, where they raised their five children and cared for two foster children.

Bob served as a member of the Kent Volunteer Fire Department and was elected as Chief for several years. He also served as a Putnam County Fire Coordinator as a Deputy.

Bob’s favorite hobby was building street rods and he spent many years taking his granddaughter Jessica to car shows.

Later in life he enjoyed living in Florida in the winter, and in his RV “up north” for the summers. Bob was also an active member of the Veterans Memorial American Legion Post #347, in Lady Lake, FL.

On December 6, 2018, Bob became a resident of the Fireman’s Home in Hudson, NY where he made many friends and was wonderfully cared for by the loving staff.

In addition to his ex-wife Jean, he is survived by his four children, Bobby Johnson, Kathy Johnson Van Coughnett, Mary Ryan and husband John, and Christina Boryk and husband Chris; eight grandchildren; Tucker Johnson, Jessica Jarrett, and husband Andrew, Lainey and Jeffrey Van Coughnett, Megan, and John “Jake” Ryan, and Christopher and Gabrielle Boryk; three great grandchildren; Cooper, Penelope and Milo Jarrett.

He is also survived by his four siblings, Russell Christensen, Susan Reed, William Johnson and wife Jeannette, and Mary Jane Miller, and many nieces and nephews.

Bob was predeceased by his son Jeffrey Mark Johnson, and brother, Henry “Sonny” Christensen.
